This is especially important due to the flammibility of wd 40. Keep in mind too that this was a plastic bag that had melted and not a bowl. In many cases the plastic will snap off or pull off with little work. Clean melted plastic off your glass cooktop with dish soap and a nylon sponge.

I have what appears to be foil melted on the ceramic top of a brand new stove top in a rental house. Hold a safety scraper fitted with a razor blade as a 45 degree angle against the surface of the glass stove top. Clean any residue with a nylon scrubber. When the stove is cooled completely put ice on the coated area.

When all of the plastic is removed clean the area with mild soap and warm water to remove any remaining cleaning fluids from the cook top. Sometimes plastic can accidentally melt and get stuck on hot metal glass or ceramic surfaces. Apply slight pressure on the blade as you begin to scrape the melted plastic from. This cleaning product has been around since 1882 and removing melted plastic is one of its many uses.

To clean melted plastic off of a stove top dampen a clean cloth with plain water and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Use tongs to handle the now hot cloth and place it over the plastic mound. Scrub with a plastic or other glass safe scrubber in a circular motion to remove the last bits. Allow the cloth to soften the melted plastic mound for five to 10 minutes.

It might sound a bit bizarre but people forget plastic objects inside their ovens more often than you think. A plastic bowl lid or bag can get stuck if they come in contact with a hot or even warm surface such as a stove top toaster or toaster oven. That would probably be a more tricky removal process. The aftermath of this is usually a splatter of melted plastic inside the oven accompanied by a putrid burnt smell.
